Originators of the Foundation of More Beautiful World

In 1989 in Torun there was an initiative group created which started acting in order to create in Poland a new foundation - the Foundation od the More Beautiful World in Skludzewo.
The originators its establishing were Danuta Sowinska - Warmbier and Leszek Warmbier - the artists and educators who had experience and works of a dozen or so years of pedagogical and artistic work in a Youth House of Culture in Torun. Working in YHC they applied different than most educators, innovatory methods of work with children and youth. Their pupils achieved numerous artistic successes, they won prizes and diplomas on all-Polish and international exhibitions and plastic competitions. The participants of their classes without problems passed entrance exams to secondary and higher plastic schools.
Danuta Sowinska - Warmbier finished in 1977 studies in the Faculty of Fine Arts of UMK in Torun, the specialty of plastic education; Leszek Warmbier finished in Poznan the Academy of Physical Education, and on the basis of submitted artistic works at Ministry of Culture he received in 1985 the authorization of a painter's artist. Both participated actively in open airs and professionals' exhibitions uniting pedagogical activity with their own artistic activity. In 2002 they entered the Association of Polish Plastic Artists.

To establish the Foundation and realise its multi-component programme Danuta and Leszek Warmbier tried to gain the authorities’, scientific, church’s, cultural, educational environments’ as well as the management of working places’ aproval. To them all they directed a Memorial in which they wrote: The basis of our concept is being aware that every child has a right to art as its recipient and every child has right to use the means of artistic expression and therefore it should have possibilities of expressing oneself, its imagination, its way of perception of the world. Unfortunately, conditions and circumstances in this period of life not always allow to show hidden desires, talents and skills of a child.
Opportunities connected with art are not used either, potential talents are wasted or suppressed.

Adapting the palace in Skludzewo for the aims of plastic education we desire to create the chance of huge development of the largest possible number of children and the youth, that in their free time will arrive and in optimum conditions, friendly creative atmosphere, will conduct their own search, will prepare to act widely and independently in the field of fine arts.

Appealing for support they organised meetings to bring closer the ideas of calling such a place.
The Department of Education in Torun took part in the organisational works initiating the meeting of interested sides. The authors of the concept motivated their commitment with the fact that they hardly anytime find well equipped studios of fine arts at schools, there is a lack of experts, means, teaching aids, they said that they continually seek the most effective ways of formation in children and the youth of creative attitudes through formation of imagination, creative expression and the perception of works of art. They desired to prepare their pupils to life, in order to, when they grow up, make themselves want, be able to and to know how to undertake trials of introducing some order in the surrounding world, to arm them against different symptoms of alienation and technocratic distortions, against automation and levelling which results are already visible in the world. They stressed the value of expression as a denial of consumerism, passivity and conformity.

Expression is connected with an active attitude towards life. It is not only an intercourse with the world of values accessible by means of art and the products of culture, but it is at the same time creating and experiencing values in a process of active working. Danuta and Leszek Warmbier in result of many-years' educational and artistic activity realised that the inclusion of a person – hopefully since childhood - in the environment which values creativity and its practising and it supports one, is the most effective way of formation of creative attitudes, it helps good motivations, it strengthens the competences, and because it does not happen without tensions and failures – it makes one resistant to stresses.
